Step Six

The sixth step the in The Autonomy Protocol.

We became entirely ready to let go of the habits and mindsets that hold us back, committing to the work of replacing them with better ones.

The “Comfortable Cage”

By now, you’ve named your bad habits. But here is the hard truth: Sometimes we hold onto bad habits because they are comfortable. Whether it’s the “rush” of a last-minute deadline or the protection of an excuse, we often cling to the very things that keep us stuck. Step Six is about realizing that these “comforts” are actually a cage. To have autonomy, you have to be entirely ready to walk out the door.

Willingness vs. Wishing

There is a big difference between wishing a problem would go away and being willing to let it go.

  • Wishing is passive. It’s hoping things get better without you having to change.
  • Willingness is active. It means you are ready to give up the “benefits” of your bad habit (like the extra gaming time) to get the “results” of a better life (like passing your classes).

Preparing for Change

Step Six is the “mental prep.” It’s the deep breath before the work starts. It’s you telling yourself: “I am done with the old version of me. I am ready for the version that actually functions.”
