Crushing the Fiction

Most high school drama is entirely fictional. It starts when we make an assumption about why someone did something, believe that assumption is the absolute truth, and then react as if we’ve been attacked.

The Assumption: “She didn’t invite me to that study session, so she must be trying to kick me out of the friend group.”
The Reality: She simply forgot, or thought you were busy with practice.
The Mental Tax: Making assumptions creates massive loops of anxiety. You waste hours over-analyzing a single text or a tone of voice.
The Courage to Ask: True autonomy requires the maturity to ask a direct, calm question instead of stewing in silence. Saying, “Hey, I noticed things felt a little weird today, are we good?” takes five seconds and destroys an entire mountain of potential drama.
The Blueprint: Find the courage to seek clarity. If you don’t know, ask. Never let your imagination build a crisis out of missing data.
