Always Do Your Best
“We commit to giving the maximum effort available to us in the present moment, accepting that our ‘best’ will fluctuate based on our health, energy, and circumstances.”
Expansion for Students: The Flexible Standard
Your “best” is not a static number. Your best when you are sick, running on four hours of sleep, and overwhelmed is going to look completely different from your best when you are well-rested, focused, and healthy.
- Eliminating Self-Abuse: This agreement is your shield against perfectionism and shame. If you honestly give the energy you have available in that moment, there is no room for self-judgment or regret.
- No Half-Measures: Doing your best doesn’t mean aiming for an 80% when you know you have 100% in the tank. It means pushing yourself to your actual current limit without breaking yourself.
- The Blueprint: Consistency beats intensity. By showing up every day and simply giving whatever “best” you have to offer, you build the discipline muscle (Step Eleven) and ensure steady, compounding growth over your entire high school career.
